chelsea loft
Originally a large, high-ceilinged raw loft with a row of windows along two sides, the challenge was to create spatial variation and layered interiority. An atrium solution was found, with the living room surrounded by two smaller, glass-paneled rooms that permitted light to filter in from the exterior windows into the atrium. At the far end of the living area, a band of white flooring created a threshold separation between the living and dining areas. A dropped ceiling with multiple lighting intensity options allowed the space to be defined in different ways. Floating walls gave the space a gallery feel to display the client’s collection of art, architectural drawings, and photographs.
