Gramercy Park

This prewar apartment belongs to two psychologists who wanted clearly defined spaces for books, art, and separate offices. The solution was to create hidden “satellite” zones using low walls within a larger open living space.

The living area also featured a floating light box that registered as a minimalist sculpture. The box was clad in a translucent material that allowed it be used as a screen for TV projection.  It also doubled on the other side as a bookshelf unit.  Ceiling beams were illuminated throughout to give the walls a floating feel, and the hallway ceiling was lined with beads of light that drew the eye upwards.  The hall passageway contained low shelving for the display of sculptures and books.
