madison avenue DUPLEX
The particular challenge here was to combine two apartments into a single space that would accommodate art display, a wine cellar, and a large, open, gourmet kitchen designed for entertaining. This required a gut renovation, eliminating double kitchens and bathrooms, and reducing functional redundancy. A “fake” ceiling beam integrated the two apartments. A new hallway was added as a join between the separate apartments, and storage units were carefully placed throughout the apartment to create new alignments. A musical variation of higher and lower walls added visual interest and helped unify the overall space.
