modern park ave apt
This apartment was in a brand new building by a well-known architect and had a clean, modern feel emphasized by bright white walls. However, the original space was disjointed, with separate wings forking off a main vestibule. The entry confronted visitors immediately with the kitchen area, so a new vestibule was added that oriented visitors to the living room and kept the kitchen/dining area separate. Recessed lighting was installed in a dropped ceiling to highlight public areas of the apartment. The private rooms were entered through a long hallway, its ceiling hatched geometrically by crossbeams of LED strip lighting. The corridor walls were lined with tall, vertical panels, some of which concealed extensive closet and storage space. The hallway thus added continuity and a rhythmic visual element to the overall space.
